The cake is a relatively simple one with just vanilla genoise and vanilla whipped cream (as per request). Hence, i had to add something out of the ordinary to bring the cake to life.
To ensure this project will not fail, i have started designing and experimenting on the components that i am going to incorporate into the cake.
first up, the PARABEAK...ok baby parabeak..it was looking really innocent and cute at first....
after the transformation, it became really ANGRY!!!
due to the humid weather in SG, my sugar doesnt dry up as fast. it is either that or it's because i bought the wrong type of colouring. :( i didnt know the wilton colouring is in liquid form. i should have checked with the sales person before purchasing. dang -.- i find it kinda weird that it was dry on Day 2 and after i place it in an air tight container, it became wet again. then i tried placing it open air to dry, it dried subsequently but the next day it became wet again -.- fyi, it is still out on my dining table 'tanning' lol..
so as we were talking about the cake. i am gonna mould 3 Baby Parabeaks as above and a Mama Parabeak that is 3 times bigger. the Baby Parabeaks will be placed in a nest made from sesame tuile :) like the one in the middle of the plate.
i had intended to make the nest using spun sugar. However, with such humid weather in SG, i am very sure it will not work as sugar is hygroscopic (meaning they attracts and holds water molecules from the environment).
and the last component to be place on the cake is....
letterings made from Sable (a type of petit four biscuit)!!! this is a trial hence it isn't that pretty. but yea that's the gist of it.
hope the 'operation' will go smoothly next week. (crossing fingers) :)
